TAI CHI FOR HEALTH classes are held on MONDAYS MORNINGS in the BRAMLEY CENTRE (next to Bramhall Health Centre)

and will RESUME JANUARY 11th 2010.

It will be a 10 week term. Cost £50 for 10 weeks or £30 for 5 weeks. Please pay for a full term if you can. (Weekly payment available in special circumstances only).

NB. If you have not tried my classes before, and provided there is room in the class, it is always possible to try your first week without committing to payment in advance.

Monday 10:00 - 11:00

This is a fairly gentle class primarily aimed at Over 50's and suitable for beginners.

The class includes Tai Chi for Arthritis, and basic principles of Tai Chi and Qigong.

Monday 11:15 - 12:15                                                            This will focus on an intermediate level Sun Style 38 form which will build on both Tai Chi for Arthritis and Sun style 13 and is suitable for anyone who has done some Tai Chi before. However, as this is a fairly small class and we are starting from the beginning of the form this term, there are limited spaces this term only for those with less experience who are happy to accept the challenge of a slightly faster pace than the 10.00 class. The class will also include various Qigong.

If you would like to join us this term, please contact me to discuss which class is most appropriate for you.

What kind of Tai Chi is this... Is it for me?

The Over 50's classes usually start with a short Tai Chi form (sequence of moves)called “Tai Chi for Arthritis” (TCA) devised by Australian physician Dr Paul Lam. This is a modern form modified slightly from the movements of traditional Sun style Tai Chi. In addition, I include elements of Qigong - gentle exercises which include a focus on breathing and relaxation.

It is not necessary to have arthritis to enjoy the class as the TCA form provides an easy introduction to Sun Style Tai Chi. It is also possible to buy Paul Lams DVD to use at home, and many complete beginners find it very easy to follow. While the beginners classes are most suitable for those who are either complete beginners in Tai Chi, do not have high levels of fitness or flexibility, or who have difficulty remembering sequences of movements, others come because they enjoy the relaxation element of the class. All students are encouraged to work within their own range of movement. Clothing should be loose and comfortable, with flat comfortable shoes or trainers.

Sun Style Tai Chi - 13 Move Introductory form and 38 Move Intermediate form  focus more on the traditional elements of Sun Style Tai Chi. The 38 move form also offers a good progression from Tai Chi for Arthritis as it will present new challenges while retaining some familiarity. Either of these forms would make a good introduction to Sun style Tai Chi if you have done some Tai Chi from another style, and would also be suitable for more active and confident beginners.
